Malaika Raiss x Berberlin
Malaika and Julia had been thinking about a joint collection for a couple of years already, until earlier this year when the idea and design finally came together.
In the beginning, the idea was to give the shared universe a framework. To link the common thread of the frequently crossing paths and overlapping themes of Berberlin and Malaika Raiss, both entrepreneurs in Berlin's creative industry, into a joint project.
However, this red thread, viewed metaphorically, should be an undyed beige, and the symbol of the merger of the two companies should contain a pattern that reflects the longing for the eternal creative process, the love of craftsmanship, the organic form and the eternal movement.
Because only what moves remains alive, what changes lasts forever.
Developed from Malaika's drawings in collaboration with the Berberlin team, beautiful, high-quality Beni M'rirt carpets were created from the finest natural sheep's wool; wool that has been carefully washed several times and tightly knotted in a family business in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, with whom Berberlin works exclusively.
The drawings were woven into the rugs in the form of negative shapes, creating a three-dimensionality that gives the carpets a sculptural appearance.
Furthermore, the rugs have been finished with long fringes all around, which surround the carpet like rays of sunshine.
